Madagascar Travel Guide

Located off the east coast of Africa, about 500 km from Mozambique, Madagascar consists of several large islands – forming the world’s fourth largest  island (some times regarded as the world’s smallest continent).

Madagascar is home to 5 per cent of all global plant and animal species, of which more than three quarters are endemic. Thanks to the diverse ecology, the island has a remarkable list of national parks, game reserves and nature conservancies – 45 in total – of which six are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The coast of Madagascar is a dive enthusiast’s paradise, drawing numerous visitors every year. Interestingly, recent surveys by the National Geographic have doubled the number of corals previously estimated to exist in the waters of Madagascar. Several new species of fish have also been identified.

When To Go:
The best time to take a holiday to Madagascar is between mid March and September when temperatures are cooler with minimum chances of rains. The period between January and early March should be avoided due to annual cyclones that usually occur during this time of the year.

Things To Do:
Snorkelling, diving, whale-watching, hiking, wildlife safaris and more.
